Behind the music

Today we will be discussing a very important role in music today, songwriters. As well as giving them credit. Today we are able to enjoy multiple genres of great music, but one of the biggest reasons we choose the music we choose is because of the words in the song or message.

A big part of these words/message created through the song are because of the writers. The job of a songwriter is to write certain parts for songs for an artist to record, it is often seen as someone eles ideas or suggestions that would make the song sound better, so they help come up with ideas for the song and help complete a song for an artist. Song writers receive credit as an author, can receive awards and royalties from the success of the songs that they write.

Another type of writer is a ghost writer. A ghost writer, writes entire songs for someone else who is named author, which is why they are considered a ghost. When hired every song written by the ghostwriter is considered the artist’s song. This often becomes a big part of an artist’s career and music when they blow up and are constantly on tour. Artist often don’t have much free time to write so they hire a Ghostwriter. It is often discredited because one is expected to write their own song, especially a rapper; so when all their songs blow up and it’s all because of their ghost writer it seems as though the artist isn't as good as we think, people see them as an actor/actress rather than an rapper or artist. Ghost writers are not credited as a writer on the song, which makes them ineligible for any awards, and they only receive a one-time payment instead of royalties.

As we can see songwriters are a very important part of the music we hear today, we really have to take time to appreciate our songwriters, and it is great to know that if you don’t actually want to perform music but still love making music you too can still be apart of the music heard worldwide today!

Pursuing a Career as a Music Teacher

Teacher-assisting-a-girl.jpg

A career as a music teacher or instructor is a very unique profession to hold, considering the lasting effects you will have on those you teach and the daily activities a music teacher is involved in. This can range from teaching students how to read music, how to play an instrument, or vocal performance. For this reason, many music teachers specialize in specific areas of music where they have the experience- such as teaching how to play piano or sing opera. One can teach music within schools or be a private music teacher working from a studio or home. Public music teachers also usually have a lesson plan they follow, whereas the latter will have to adjust their lesson plans according to each child and their needs.

What are the Steps to Become a Music Teacher/Instructor?

If you decide to become a public music teacher, having a bachelor's degree in music and completing a state-approved teacher preparation program is required. According to Teacher Certification Degrees the full process to becoming a music teacher generally includes:

  1. Earning a bachelor's degree in music or music education (including a teacher preparation program)
  2. Completing a music internship at the grade level you wish to teach
  3. Taking your state-certified test for teachers
  4. Applying for a teaching certificate
  5. Applying for music teacher positions wherever you can after college

On the other hand, becoming a private music instructor is less strenuous- there are no official requirements unless you are planning to work for a private company. Even then, the requirements will vary per company. Since having a degree in music is not necessarily needed, almost anyone can become a private music instructor. However, whether a person is qualified or not is an important point. While there is more flexibility when it comes to being a private music teacher, there are usually some minimum requirements that must be met in order to become a successful private instructor in your area. To see some of these requirements, check out these two blogs by Brian Jenkins and CareersinMusic.com.

Debary's Youth Celebration!

gemini springs.PNG

Debary is bringing talented youth to you this March 3rd at the youth celebration of the arts. Gemini springs will host this event, as it has throughout several years.

Among the many activities that will be available for friends and family, there will also be many young performers to view. Among these performers there will be the famous Preps Dance Company.

Here is a video of one of their amazing performances (nothing beats a live performance though).

All festival goers will be able to experience many youth performers, from the stage to the grass. The stage will continuously be occupied by many of the talented Volusia county students, and the paths will be engulfed with musicians.

Whether your son or daughter is going to be on stage, or if you just enjoy the arts, Gemini springs is the place to be this March 3rd!
